Substance Abuse Group (SAG)
Session 1 - Definitions of use, abuse and dependency, as well as personal risk factors.
Objective: Patient understands the differences between use, abuse and dependency. They will also understand how their personal risk factors could lead to the progression of Chemical Dependency.
Session 2 - Step 1 (taken from 12-Step Program) lecture and discussion of personal consequences.
Objective: Patient participates in a discussion of common consequences of alcohol and drug use and relate them back to their own lives.
Session 3 - Feelings and defenses that have led them to chemical use resulting in adverse consequences.
Objective: Patient identifies feelings that have affected their chemical use and participate in a discussion about those feelings.
Session 4 - The effects of chemical use on the family.
Objective: Patient recognizes the effects of their usage on the family.
Session 5 - Advantages and disadvantages of chemical use and how they affect our values and choices.
Objective: Patient identifies their personal advantages & disadvantages of chemical use while identifying important values that are compromised by their use.
Session 6 - Preventing continuing use and building a support network.
Objective: Patient develops specific plans to avoid future problematic use and how to deal with peer pressure.
